A2 Doubles F block Tuesday 16th June 20 Mechanics orange book Further Mechanics.
Work Energy and Power we have two weeks on this topic so we can take it steadily. I am assuming NO knowledge of this topic ( not all students do Physics if you do, you may already know some of this.) |
Today's lesson: welcome to our two new students Jesse and Josh
1. Assignment test 5 upload to me by the end of the lesson please
2. Watch the video on work done
3. Do Ex 2A page 19 Orange Further Mechanics book question 14, 15, 16, 17 and upload by the end of the lesson
4. Start FP1 assignment 6, paper 10 mechanics section only and Mechanics 6 due Tuesday 23rd June by 10am.

Work done = the component of force in the direction of motion x distance moved in the direction of the force
Unit of work done is Nm or Joule so who was James Prescott Joule? What did he do? Why is the unit named after him? |
Work done against gravity that is in raising an object from the ground to a height h is
mg (weight) x h (vertical height) = mgh
* a common mistake when an object is moving up an inclined plane is to use the distance along the slope instead of the vertical distance.

Mechanics solutions can look a complete shambles if not set out correctly.
There should always be a concept at the start of the solution
For example
Work done against friction =
Distance travelled =
Speed of projection =
NOT a line of arithmetic like this!
20x9.8x5= 980 this is obvious but what are you telling the person reading your work? nothing!
even worse no equal signs at all just
40x 12
480
Explain what you are finding in mechanics in your work.
Work down the page not across.
I will be looking out for this in your uploaded work. If double mathematicians can't set out their work correctly then who can?!
